Visionnet is Australia's first and leading business-quality,
IP-based video communications network.
Since launching the service in 2003, we have carried
video calls worldwide - focusing on making Visionnet
as easy
to use as the telephone.
The Visionnet Network allows
you to connect to virtually everywhere you want to make
a video call - across
the country and
around the globe.
Visionnet Network Reach
As well as Australia, Visionnet
has a presence across the United States, Europe, South
America,
Canada,
and Asia through its partnership with GlowPoint. Visionnet
provides 99.98% minimum
commitment for all customer traffic that is transported
via the Visionnet Backbone.
Visionnet's Backbone Reach across
many Countries

Our network backbone is
designed to support customer bandwidth requirement, with
the only limitation
being the video equipment's
capabilities. Typically, users find 384Kbps -
512Kbps video calling speeds meet their quality
needs
over our IP network
service. A maximum of 2Mbps is allowed. Actual
limits are determined by the service plan options
purchased.
Using our infrastructure and customer access
capabilities, our network can reach a large
majority of customer
video conferencing locations at reasonable,
cost-saving prices.
Visionnet has demonstrated
the leadership and capability to help customers succeed
in using
video conferencing
over IP networks. Statistics reflect that
customers using Visionnet
tend to use video more often than users on
alternative network solutions.
IP Video Conferencing Network Backbone
and Access
The Network is a completely Visionnet-controlled
and privately-owned IP network provided
through strategic relationships with
various dedicated network providers,
peered IP network providers and last-mile local
loop carriers
for connectivity
between our Points of Presence. We also
have agreements with multiple last-mile carriers
to provide low-cost
SDSL, ADSL and DDA 2Mbps access to customer
premises.
More than just rebadging one network supplier, Visionnet controls the aggregation point of 5
different networks thoughout Australia, not just CBDs, with its own routing and switching
control.
Visionnet is also able to demand SLAs with these network suppliers for videoconferencing
that customers may not be able to achieve otherwise, such as, 0.02% packet loss for any tail.
Visionnet extends its network throughout the World via GLOWPOINT, and out to the Internet
with a high accessibility 1:1 contention ratio Internet connection.
Visionnet's Network Features
Dedicated to Video Communications:
A Videoconferencing network is not just an IP network. The Visionnet Network was designed and built to meet the
needs and expectations of video conference
users - it is not a network that has been built for other purposes
and modified for video. This is important,
because high quality video conferencing demands uninterrupted bandwidth
and impeccable 99.8% Quality of Service. Visionnet deploys Gatekeepers, Bridges and ensures compatibility, control, monitoring and a range of central services dedicated to video conferencing.
Flexible Connections:
Visionnet supports SDSL, HDSL, Frac E1, DS3,
Fibre, ATM, and Gigabit Ethernet options
and both H.323, H.320 algorithms. The Network peers with
multiple carriers so
that you can video call anyone and anyone can reach you
as long as you have each other's video numbers.
You
can
also make "best
effort" calls
to colleagues
using the Public
Internet for
video.
Centralised Videoconfrencing Services and Infrastructure:
Visionnet customers are able to take advantage of a range of services and infrastructure that
may be cost prohibitive if you were to implement your own IP network for videoconferencing.
These include:
• Video Gateway for connection to ISDN units
• Direct In Dial
• Multiple Video Bridging platforms – including Tandberg, Codian and Polycom
• High Definition multipoint bridging
• Gatekeeper Redundancy
• VideoMail
• Pre-recorded Video Call Assistant (LISA)
• Help Desk Support – ‘234’ including remote endpoint diagnostics
• Internet Call access (No QOS)
Visionnet is able to extend these services to a full Managed Service including the hosting of
customer infrastructure within the Visionnet network.
